THE SPACES IN-BETWEEn
Calais is a typeface that puts the focus on design in the in-between. Drawn on trains and planes, the idea for the typefaces comes from being in liminal state, a state of impermanence — and how these ideas of the 'in-between' can directly translate to the forms and functions found in type design.
Initiated on a train between London and Paris, Calais attempts to reconcile Edward Johnson's eponymous and seminal work for the London Underground, with the French's nuanced contributions to typography, for a new generation.
Calais is variable from Thin to Heavy and from Extra Reverse Italic to Italic.
